Fifty-Two Submarines went on Eternal Patrol during World War II During the "Tolling of the Bells," the name of each Submarine, the date it was lost and the number of men aboard each submarine were remembered. A total of 67 submarines have been lost - four since World War II. To date, 3, 897 submariners are on Eternal Patrol.

Three active duty Navy sailors who qualified for submarine service got their "Dolphins" pinned during opening ceremonies by two veteran submariners - one who qualified for his "Dolphins" in 1939 and another who qualified in 1940. A fourth submariner was sworn in to a second tour of duty by a World War II submarine veteran.

Most of the Submarine Veterans Memorial weekend was spent at the Hospitality Suite at the Cumberland Inn and the Goat Locker - the Navy Chiefs Lounge on base. Veteran submariners shared stories with each other and with the active duty chiefs. Pete Sococo, who qualified for submarine duty in 1940, celebrated his 90th birthday.
